WHAT IS BOLLYWOOD!!!

Bollywood is the name given to the Indian film industry and which is based in Mumbai.
It is recognised as one of the leading film industries in the world and produces over a thousand films a year while providing work for hundreds of thousands of people.

Bollywood is quite frequently referred to as Hindi cinema but the movies made actually use Urdu and English as well as Hindi. The industry employs people from all parts of India.

Many people wonder how the name of Bollywood came about, and the main consensus seems to be that because the industry is based in what was Bombay, but is now Mumbai , the first letter of Hollywood, the "H" was replaced by the first letter in Bombay, the "B", making the word "Bollywood".

Dadasaheb Phalke made the first silent Bollywood movie, called Raja Harishchandra in 1913 and the first movie with sound was produced in 1931 and was called Alam Ara, directed by Ardeshir Irani. This movie was actually a major hit in when it first came out.
Most Bollywood movies in the early years where all made on a low budget, yet nowadays, Bollywood movies are now in the multi-million dollar production bracket.
The directors and actors can earn huge sums of money- even millions of dollars for doing one single movie. Recently there have been a good few action and science-fiction films made in Bollywood and which have involved high quality action and fantastic special effects, but at the moment overseas experts are still needed to oversee these.

Most Bollywood films are in the style of musicals and are packed with dancing and singing. On the whole, music and songs are essential for a Bollywood movies success, and to offer full value for money, a movie would contain a pleasant mix of dances, songs, comedy, love triangles, fight scenes, and more. A typical plot would involve love triangles, family ties, corrupt politicians, sacrifice, court scenes, kidnappers, etc, and would also include a good dose of sex.

Dance scenes normally incorporate a combination of western and eastern choreography and by learning a Bollywood dance you could turn into a very adaptable dancer.

Going back about twenty years, most of the movies shot by Bollywood were filmed in a variety of regions across India, with Shimla, Kashmir, Jaipur, Dehradun and Jaisalmer being good examples. But recently there has been a trend that film goers want to see their movies shot in new locations. Hence, the movies that are shot in Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, the United States and other European countries have proven to be huge box office hits.
