AKSHAY KUMAR ENTRY TO THE BOLLYWOOD FILM INDUSTRY:

Akshay Kumar (born Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia, on September 9, 1967) is a popular Bollywood film actor. During the 90s, Kumar was known as the action hero of Bollywood. Since then, balancing commercial crowd attracting with critical success, he has established himself as one of the leading actors of the industry.

EARLY LIFE

Akshay Kumar lived in Delhi for some time before moving to Mumbai. He lived in Koliwada which was a Punjabi dominated area. And then moved to Amritsar. He studied at Don Basco school and then Khalsa College, where he took an interest in sports.

He studied martial arts in Bangkok and worked as a Chef. His fall into acting came when producer Pramod Chakravarthy, saw his portfolio and offered the lead role in Deedar.
CAREER

His first Bollywood film was "Saugandh" in 1991 which was unnoticed.

His first major hit was the 1992 thriller film "Khiladi". 1993 saw a drop as many of his films failed to do well. However, 1994 proved to be a good year for Kumar as he followed up his success with Khiladi with the action thriller "Main Khiladi Tu Anari" and the action hit "Mohra" which was one of the highest grossing films of the year. Later that year, Yash Chopra signed him for the romantic film "Yeh Dillagi" which was also a success. He received appreciation for his performance in this film, where he played a romantic role which was different compared to his action roles. Consequently, he received various nominations for Best Actor award at the Filmfare and Star Screen ceremonies. All these achievements, promoted Kumar as one of the most successful actors of that year.

In 1995, along with his share of unsuccessful movies, he starred in the third film in his Khiladi series Sabse Bada Khiladi, which was another hit. He proved to have success with the Khiladi series, as in the next year he starred in the fourth hit film with Khiladi in the title, Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi opposite Rekha and Raveena Tandon, which was one of the highest grossing films of the year.

In 1997, he made an extended guest appearance in Yash Chopra's hit film Dil To Pagal Hai, for which he received a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award nomination.

In the same year, he attempted a comedy role with the fifth film in the Khiladi series, Mr and Mrs Khiladi which was unsuccessful. Along with this film, his next few Khiladi films went on to fail at the box office. In 1999, he received critical acclaim for his roles in the films Sangharsh and in the box office hit Jaanwar.

In 2000 he starred in the comedy "Hera Pheri" (2000) which was a success and showcased his talent at doing comedy just as well as action or romantic roles. He also starred in the romantic film Dhadkan later that same year which was also a box office hit. In 2001, Kumar played a negative role in the film Ajnabee for which he won much acclaim as well as the Filmfare Best Villain Award.

After the success of Hera Pheri, he starred in many successful comedy films which include Awara Paagal Deewana (2002), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004) and Garam Masala (2005)

Apart from his action, comedy and romantic roles he also displayed a flair for dramatic roles in films such as Ek Rishtaa (2001), Ajnabee (2001), Bewafaa (2005) and Waqt: The Race Against Time (2005) which did moderately well in India, but was a hit overseas.

In 2006 he starred in a sequel to "Hera Pheri titled Phir Hera Pheri" which was a huge success at the box office.

Later that year he starred alongside Salman Khan in the romantic musical film Jaan-E-Mann which did not do as well as expected at the box office. Though the film under-performed, his role as a shy, lovable nerd was praised. He ended the year with Bhagam Bhag which was a success.

His first release of 2007, "Namastey London" was critically and commercially successful in India and overseas. The film is currently the second highest grossing film of 2007.

Akshay is also a brand ambassador for products like XBOX 360, Thumps Up etc and is an active stage performer. He led the Heat 2006 world tour which also starred Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Sushmita Sen and Celina Jaitley.

CONTROVERSY

In July 2007, a leading Mumbai tabloid newspaper printed a story saying that Kumar and his wife had fallen out and Kumar had moved out of his home, staying at a hotel instead. On 26 July 2007 the couple sent a legal notice to the tabloid, declaring that the rumour was false. Kumar said:

“ The article is a clear representation of careless and irresponsible journalism. The freedom of press comes with responsibilities, which seems to have been put aside to give way to shock value journalism."
AKSHAY KUMAR TRIVIA

* He is the son-in-law of Bollywood mega-star, Rajesh Khanna and actress, Dimple Kapadia, as well as the brother-in-law of actress Rinke Khanna.

ACCORDING TO AKSHAY KUMAR HE IS CRAZY ABOUT THE FOLLOWING THINGS IN HIS LIFE:

My Wife: Tina (Twinkle Khanna) is a perfect homemaker. She is an independent woman and she is making a lot of money in her interior decoration business. I am fascinated by the way she conducts her business. She has a positive approach to life, and that works well for me. We are completely opposites, I guess we got together because opposites attract. Tina is outgoing, I'm not. She speaks her mind, I don't.

My Sister: Alka is the most beautiful woman I have seen. I admire the way she runs her spa, Aroma Garden. She makes people look beautiful – as beautiful as her...

My Son: Aarav calls me Deda, I too called my dad the same. Recently I bought him a piggy-bank, which has become his favourite possession. He is learning to save in this piggy-bank from this age, which is a good habit. Whenever I am shooting in Mumbai, I take a lunch break, during which I pick Aarav up from his school and eat with him.

My Motorbike: My father gave me my heavymetal blue motorbike. I ride the bike sometimes to the studios and have also used it for photoshoots. The day Tina launched her store, White Window, I was running late for the event. So I rode my bike and zoomed in on time. Every week I clean the bike myself, I don't allow anyone else to touch it.

My Nano iPod: This is my latest obsession and I am hooked on to it. I am not a gizmo person, but I off late I have started surfing the Internet on my laptop, and download tracks in my iPod. My iPod has rap, hip-hop, club music, Spanish music. Recently when I was in Mauritius, I heard a Spanish track on the radio and I drove everyone crazy, asking for the song. Now I have it in my iPod.

Sweets and Mangoes: I am a mithai lover. I love those desi ghee Punjabi sweets and desserts. I love mangoes too. This summer I will be travelling for my world tour but I have asked my friends to get me Alphonso mangoes and other mithais from Mumbai. (Akki is so fond of mangoes that Vipul Shah incorporated it in his film, Waqt)

My DVDs: I try and watch at least one international film a day. I buy DVDs by the dozen. My alltime favourite film is Life Is Beautiful and I cry by the buckets whenever I see it. Jean Luc Goddard's Breathless is another favourite of mine. I wish someone in India could make a film like this.

She then turned to television advertising. From 1998 onwards, she appeared in numerous television ads, many of which were directed by Pradeep Sarkar. She also took supporting roles in music videos, appearing with singers and bands such as Euphoria, Shubha Mudgal, and Pankaj Udhas, and acted in Hindi soap operas like Hum Paanch. She portrayed the role of Radhika Mathur in few episodes of season 1 of "Hum Paanch" (sitcom) which was first aired in 1995. Since she is obviously older than 13 in these episodes, her repeated claims to have been born in 1982 is believed to be false.

In 2005, she finally made her appearance on the big screen, in two movies. She appeared in a Bengali film, "Bhalo Theko", for which she won the Best Actress Anand Lok Puraskar award in Kolkata. Also in 2005, Balan made her Hindi film debut in "Parineeta". The film was very successful at the box office.

After the success of Parineeta the same producer who dropped Vidya Balan from Manasellam saying that she was not emoting properly & non photogenic, was after her to sign her opposite to none other than Kamal Hassan for Dasavatharam. But Vidya Balan rejected the offer and Asin Thottumkal was signed instead.

In 2006 she appeared opposite Sanjay Dutt in the film "Lage Raho Munna Bhai". The movie was a major hit within India and was ranked #1 on the box office for eight weeks after its release. Telugu Superstar Chiranjeevi who is enacting the remake of Lage Raho Munnabhai desperately wanted to sign Vidya Balan and the producer even offered her a remuneration of Rs. 1 crore, but Vidya Balan was not tempted to return South again.

Vidya was recently seen in a supporting role in Mani Ratnam's Guru; she played a woman with a physical disability and she played a woman with amnesia in the multi-starrer "Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love". Her latest release is "Eklavya: The Royal Guard" which got mixed reviews.

Vidya's next release will be Priyadarshan's version of malayalam hit "Manichitrathazhu" that roughly translates to "magic lock". The movie is about the mysteries of superstitions, supernatural power and split personality. Vidya essays the role immortalised by Shobana, who had bagged the Best Actress Award in 1990. Priyadarshan worked in the second unit of the original as a tribute to his master Fazil. Priyadarshan thought that Vidya Balan is a good dancer as she was a Palakkad Brahmin. He was shocked to discover that the actress has two left feet. But Vidya took it as a challenge and supposed to have practised hard for the crucial dance sequence in the climax where the Ganga transforms into the dancer Nagavalli by personality disorder.

PERSONAL LIFE:

Her father, P. R. Balan, is the Vice President of ETC Channel and her mother is a housewife.

In a video interview, Vidya has stated that she is "extremely spiritual", has a "firm faith in God" and visits temples everyday .

Gossip columnists linked Vidya with one of her co-stars, John Abraham. She strongly denied the allegations, saying that the rumors were "vile".

VIDYA BALAN PERSONAL QUOTES:

"Neither of my first two Malayalam films got completed, and I walked out of the third, a Tamil film, because I was not comfortable. I was replaced in another Tamil film with the excuse that I could not act. They made me feel ugly to the point where I was scared to look in the mirror. In retrospect I thank God, and by God's grace today the going is good."

"I have enjoyed the success my work has brought me. Some might say I haven’t really struggled to be successful. I think it is my perspective that is utopian. My state of mind is positive and peaceful. And I dare to dream"

"Our city has been ravaged by the monsoon. There's mayhem and disorder every where. Lives have been lost and property destroyed."

"My attitude towards the tragedy has been mixed - on the one hand, I have utmost faith. On the other hand, I question the powers above. Property is replaceable, life is not. Why have innocents died? I have asked myself this question again and again. It's when a tragedy of this scale that has no apparent reason occurs that I wonder how I can continue to look at the brighter side of life... The answer eludes me."

"I am extremely spiritual. Spirituality, for me, is unmoving faith in the force above. Though I have firm faith in God, I refuse to follow meaningless rituals. And I am certainly not superstitious. I believe there is one supreme power, a governing force that rules the world. I derive my strength from that force. It could be a manifestation of the sun or the moon. I call it God."

"Even in times of adversity, I believe everything that happens, happens for the best. I am a die-hard optimist. People say this bent of mind is fatalistic but I don't think so. There's a light at the end of every tunnel. Every moment I think God is around me, there's never any reason to fear. I have never slotted things as good and bad - they are always good and not so-good. I believe we should make the most of what we have."

"I have enjoyed the success my work has brought me. Some might say I haven't really struggled to be successful. I think it is my perspective that is utopian. My state of mind is positive and peaceful. And I dare to dream."

"I must say Mumbai is a relatively safe city for women. They can and they do deal with hooliganisn when they have to be. For years I was train commuter in Mumbai. And I was a victim of eve-teasing a lot many times. There have been instances when I've slapped men and screamed at them for staring or misbehaving.I was warned against retaliation. But I think if male aggression isn't nipped in the bud, they finally gather the courage to get worse in their behaviour. Societal fear is so large that women keep quiet when they're subjected to indecent behaviour. Not me. When I commuted by train I'd pull up men for staring at me. As a woman you instinctively know a man's intention by the way he shakes your hand."

Salman's fan-following can perhaps be measured from the fact that he is unarguably the biggest draw at Bollywood musical stage shows across the globe.

ENTRY TO THE BOLLYWOOD FILM INDUSTRY:

Preity Zinta (born 31 January 1975) is an award-winning popular Indian actress who appears in Bollywood movies. She is among the most successful actresses in the industry, and is regarded as one of the biggest names in India. Balancing commercial successes with critically acclaimed performances she has established herself as one of the most prominent leading actresses of Hindi cinema. Zinta is placed on the top in the list of the biggest actresses of this generation.

CAREER:

EARLY CAREER:

Zinta met Shekhar Kapur when she accompanied her friend to an audition and was auditioned too. Coincidentally, after Kapur saw her audition he insisted on her to become an actress. Zinta was meant to make her acting debut with Kapur's Tara Rum Pum Pum opposite Hrithik Roshan but the film never took off. Later, Kapur recommended her for Mani Ratnam's "Dil Se".

Technically her first film was Kundan Shah's "Kya Kehna" but it got delayed till 2000. The delay of another film Soldier meant that she made her acting debut with Dil Se (1998). The film was her breakthrough role and she won the Filmfare Best Debut Award for her performance, which was only twenty minutes long. This was followed by the hit Soldier and Sangharsh, which did not do well at the Box Office, but gained her recognition as an actress. Zinta also starred in two Telugu films.

BREAKTHROUGH:

Her first release in 2000 was the hit Kya Kehna. Critics began to take notice of her after her performance in this film. Her role as a teenage single mother was well acclaimed and she received various nominations in the best actress category.

She was known for enacting diverse roles. Roles like the mentioned CBI officer in Sangharsh, the teenage single mother in Kya Kehna and the prostitute in Chori Chori Chupke Chupke were very different from typical roles made by actresses in that point of time, and won her critical acclaim.

Later, she had successes with the films "Mission Kashmir" (2000) which was the third highest grossing film of the year and Dil Chahta Hai (2001) which entered into the top five highest grossing films of the year.

In 2002, she was the main protagonist in Dil Hai Tumhaara. The film marked an important milestone in her career. Although the film did not do well at the box office, her role as an adopted daughter was much appreciated and her performance was well acclaimed. Consequently, she became sought-after by some of the biggest filmmakers in the following years.

SUCCUSS:

The year 2003 proved to be a very good one for Zinta, as she was the female lead in three of the year's highest grossing films: The Hero: Love Story of a Spy which is considered as the most expensive Hindi film ever made, "Koi... Mil Gaya" and "Kal Ho Naa Ho". She won many awards for her role as the insecure and angry Indian-American girl in Kal Ho Naa Ho. Her performance in the film also won her the Filmfare Best Actress Award.

This was followed in 2004 by the moderately successful film Lakshya which was the fourth highest grossing film of the year, and for which she received mixed reviews. Latter, Yash Chopra signed her for the role of Zaara in the love legend "Veer-Zaara", which was the biggest hit of the year. Veer-Zaara was her second highest grossing film in a row, and marked her entry into Yash Raj Films, which is considered to be one of the biggest production houses in the Bollywood industry. All these achievements promoted her as one of the biggest stars in the industry.

She had two releases in 2005: Khullam Khulla Pyaar Karen and "Salaam Namaste". The former received poor reviews at the box office, while the latter did fairly well in India and was one of the biggest hits overseas. She also received various nominations for Best Actress in different award ceremonies for her performance in the latter, where she played the role of a single modern young woman who leaves India to make her own life in Australia.

Zinta was welcomed with similar success the following year in 2006. Her first release "Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna" released in August 2006 and became one of the biggest box office hits. She played a stylish and modern fashion magazine editor in this film, which was also well received. Her most recent film Jaan-E-Mann performed poorly at the box office.

In 2007, Zinta was offered a role in the foreign film Marigold, but turned it down.

PERSONAL LIFE:

FAMILY:

Born in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, she hails from a family of Rohru in Shimla District.Zinta initially planned to do an English honours but later decided to pursue psychology. Zinta also attended Bombay University. After earning a degree in criminal psychology at the St. Bedes College, Zinta began her career as a model and appeared in several commercials.

Deepankar is a commissioned officer in the Indian Army, while Manish is settled in Los Angeles.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Zinta has been dating the Bombay Dyeing heir, Ness Wadia since February 2005.In 2007, there was an alleged crisis in Preity's relationship with Wadia, due to the alleged affair with Shekhar Kapur (see controversies), and the supposedly cold vibes between Preity and Wadia's mother Maureen. Maureen Wadia reacted to the rumours in an interview. She ended up with the rumours, saying: "I'm delighted at my son's choice". In April 2007 Zinta attended an event along with Wadia, which proved that they are together despite the mentioned rumours.

Gossip has also linked her with many other Bollywood stars, but Zinta has strongly denied all these rumours.

COMMITMENTS:

REPRESENTATION:

In May 2006 she and Karan Johar received an invitation to represent Bollywood at the Cannes Film Festival. They took this opportunity to promote Johar's latest film Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. She attended the festival the following year in 2007.

In 2007, She co-hosted the 52nd Filmfare Awards ceremony, along with Shahrukh Khan, Karan Johar and Juhi Chawla.

In 2007 she was the guest of honour in an art event called Spandan 2. The event took place in the famous Mumbai art gallery Articulate. Also in 2007, Zinta was chosen as the first brand ambassador for GoAir, a new Airway service.

STAGE SHOWS:

Zinta joined a group of top stars (Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Rampal, and Priyanka Chopra) in the Temptation 2004 concert, which was an international success.

In 2006, Zinta toured again, participating and performing in the successful Heat 2006 concert around the world, along with Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Sushmita Sen and Celina Jaitley.

HUMANITARIAN WORKS:

In 2005, along with other Bollywood stars, Preity performed at the HELP! Telethon Concert to help raise money for the victims of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.

In July 2006, Zinta participated in a blood donation camp organised by the Rotary Club of Delhi in association with Godfrey Philips Bravery Awards and donated blood. She supported the promote of this humanitarian cause, saying: "Donating blood doesn't kill one but goes on to save somebody's life. Blood donation also creates a universal world. Once blood is donated it becomes universal and might be used by anyone in need, irrespective of community, caste or region. It binds people together." Apart from it, Zinta also lend her support to the cause of women empowerment for Godfrey Philips.

Zinta donated her winnings, from her 2007 appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati to the Shimla District Red Cross Society in Himachel Pradesh, along with Rani Mukerji. She donated Rs 25 lakhs to the society in support of its welfare activities.

CONTROVERSIES:

BHARAT SHAH CASE:

In 2003, Zinta was a witness in the Bharat Shah case and his links to the Mumbai mafia. She stuck by her statement that she received a threatening phone call from the mafia while shooting the film Chori Chori Chupke Chupke (2000). She was given police protection and was forced to stay out of the public eye for months. Many other celebrities including Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan were witnesses in the case but they soon retracted their statements. Zinta was the only witness not to have turned hostile.

NESS WADIA CASE:

In 2006, Zinta's boyfriend Ness Wadia was reported to have beaten up some construction workers in her building. The rumours also reported that a woman was critically injured and a child was hurt. Zinta was very angry at hearing these rumours, and had repeatedly shouted at the media very much about the incident, claiming it wasn't true. Zinta even offered 1 crore to whoever could find an injured woman. The press came up with no findings, and this rumour was considered to be false.

ALLEGED AFFAIR:

Actress and Singer Suchitra Krishnamurthy has blamed Preity Zinta for her divorce with Shekhar Kapur, alleging that Preity was having an affair with her husband.

It wasn't the first time that Krishnamurthy has accused Zinta in this issue. Previously, she had written the same in a personal blog. However, initially Zinta kept a dignified silence and refused to talk about the issue, waiting it to disappear for itself.

Krishnamurthy also stated, that after the first time she accused her in the blog, Zinta used to call her every day and try to explain to her that she was not responsible for anything, and had nothing with her husband.

When Krishnamurthy accused Zinta for the second time in an interview, Zinta was travelling and got to know that only when her business manager Tanuja Mehra informed her about it. Zinta denied all the accusations saying, "It is unfortunate that I am bearing the brunt of someone else’s paranoia. She’s clearly unstable and I wish her a speedy recovery."

Preity's last reaction was relatively calm "I really don't understand why is the media going crazy about something that does not even exist" she said. She stated that she had met Kapur only five times in 10 years. In regard to Krishnamurthy, Zinta said, "Everyone who is a nobody wants to be somebody at the expense of famous people like me." Since then, apparently this controversy has come to an end.

IN THE MEDIA:

PREITY ZINTA PERSONAL QUOTES:

"I lost my father when I was 13-years-old. He was a great man, my father, and very intelligent. I love him very much. I believe it's very important that parents have a personal connection with their children. It helps kids feel more secure, have a feeling of family, makes them feel loved."

"Whenever I came across something that influenced me, I wanted to be that. So it varied from an astronaut, airhostess, army girl, to truck driver. Once, I wanted to be a nun - my mother wanted me to change schools after that..."

"I am single and desperately looking for a good man in my life. I did have major crushes when I was younger but no serious relationship."

"I want to bring a change and do something new and different in my profession, but in the beginning I'll have to toe line, I want to be known as a performer not a star."

"I am proud to be part of today's Bollywood. I love dancing and lip synching to our songs."

"To act, you must know pain. You must know what it means to be in love, what it means to be rejected."

"You know what's the worst part about being an actress? It's the pressure to look gorgeous all the time and to behave perfectly. But I'm not perfect, nobody is."

"Acting can truly take a toll on your nerves. I mean we have to be larger than life. Worse, I've seen actors acting off the sets too."

On the changing face of Indian cinema "At one time I wondered if I was doing the right films, today I know I have made the right choices. Indian cinema is changing, not step by step but by leaps. New blood is coming in, mindsets are changing and our exposure to the world is ever- increasing. I am glad these positive changes are happening when I am in the industry and not ten years from now."

On love at first sight "It is superficial to fall in love with someone looking at their face. To me I need to discover the person. I would never look at someone and exclaim - He is the one!"

Upen Patel was born to a Gujarati family in 1980, Patel grew up in London. He picked Media Studies in college and Computer Science at Hatfield University, in Hertfordshire, where he also attended a camp in dramatics.

He first appeared on the ramp in India at Lakme Fashion Week 2003, modelling for designer JJ Valaya.

Upen Patel, along with his family, migrated to the UK from Uganda 23 years back where he began getting modelling offers immediately after graduating in Media Studies from West Herts College.

He was offered tickets to India and a chance to participate in the Indian Fashion Week by his close friend. Upen, who walked the ramp at the Fashion Week, enjoyed it so much that he decided to stay back in India. Upen also participated in international shows for top designers Hugo Boss, Paul Smith and Zegna, but the model prefers working in India. Upen made men cooking in vogue in India when he hosted the show ‘Cook Na Kaho’ on Star channel. Upen is the face for Tommy Hilfiger in India as well.

But, he came to the limelight only after he won Zee TV's supermodel hunt in the year 2002.
He is associated with brands like Tuscan Verve and Tommy Hilfiger is the new heartthrob in the film industry.

He is passionate about everything that has to do with speed, like skiing, buggies, powerboats and bikes. At the same time this metrosexual guy has a craze for ear studs, bracelets and lockets.

They wanted me to be the second or third lead. I then received a call from Mukta Arts and was told that Subhash Ghai wanted to meet me. At his office, he had pictures of me from various articles and magazine covers. He told me he had been following my progress for nine months and said that Mukta Arts could launch me as a hero. I was wowed," he adds

AJAY DEVGAN & HIS WIFE KAJOL

AJAY DEVGAN WITH HIS DAUGHTER NYSA

ENTRY TO THE BOLLYWOOD MOVIE INDUSTRY:

he took up direction of video films on his own story lines. His debut film was Ajay Devgan, son of legendary veteran action choreographer Veeru Devgan, was born in Delhi, India. He was exposed to films at a very early age. After post graduation from Mithibhai College "Phool Aur Kante"(1992) in which the blazing intensity of his performance and the dare delivery of stunts were to become a hallmark for the Hindi film audience in the 90s.

Being the son of a fight master and fond of performing stunts, his earlier films were more of a violent nature. The trend in his career changed with two romantic comedies 'Ishq' (1997) and 'Pyar To Hona Hi Thaa' (1998). His brilliant performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' (1999) definitely was one of the main factors that contributed to the success of the film. After a couple of films like 'Company' (2002) and 'The Legend of Bhagat Singh' (2002), he proved himself as the right choice for both positive and negative roles.

His early list of sterling performances include films like 'Zakhm' (1998), 'Lajja' (2001), 'Deewangee' (2002) and 'Bhoot' (2003). In 2004 he did five films such as 'Raincoat', 'Yuva', 'Masti', 'LOC Kargil' and 'Khakee'. His acting in Raincoat as the middle class desperate man was commendable. His next noted film was 'Apaharan' (2005) in which his transformation from a simpleton to a criminal was amongst the high points of his performance. In Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Omkara' (2006) Ajay makes a stirring and powerful interpretation of a man troubled by doubt about his lover's faithfulness.

In real life, he is known to be a quiet person who does not like to party much. Ajay, a car enthusiast, is also a good businessman as reflected by his successful venture into film production and distribution business. The man has a very humane side to him as well being the Brand Ambassador of 'Round Table India', an organisation in pursuit of educating 1 million children. Ajay Devgan got married to actress Kajol on February 24, 1999 and a daughter Nysa was born to them in April 20th,2003.

Ajay has managed to do different characters with a flair characteristic to the man. One can undoubtedly say that he is an actor who supersedes himself with each film.

Ajay with his wife Kajol endorses Whirlpool and Tata Indicom. Macho Ajay has been chosen as the brand ambassador for Mc Dowell’s. Ajay Devgan continues to be one of the most dependable actors in Bollywood.

ENTRY TO THE BOLLYWOOD FILM INDUSTRY:

Rani Mukerji, formerly Rani Mukherjee, born March 21, 1978 is one of the most popular Bollywood actresses at present.

Family background:

She comes from a film-clan family of Bengali origin: Her father, Ram Mukherjee is a retired director. her mother Krishna used to be a playback singer, while her brother Raja Mukherjee is a film producer. Her maternal aunt is Debashree Roy. The popular bollywood actress, Kajol, is her second cousin.

CAREER:

She began her film career with the Bengali film 'Biyer Phool'. Her first Hindi film was "Raja Ki Aayegi Baarat" (1996), which did not do well at the box office. However, her next two releases - 'Ghulam' and 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' (1998) - were hits. For the latter she received her first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Mukerji shot to instant stardom after these successes, and was signed on for a great many movies immediately afterwards. Unfortunately, most of them did average business at the box office. It was only after the release of 'Saathiya' in 2002, directed by Shaad Ali, that she regained her reputation. The film was critically and commercially successful and Rani was recognised as one of the leading commercial actresses of the day.

In 2004, her performances in 'Yuva' and the commercially successful 'Hum Tum' earned her more awards - the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for the former, and the Filmfare Best Actress Award for the latter, the next year. Her performance as an activist lawyer in 'Veer-Zaara', the year's biggest hit, was also praised, and earned her yet another Filmfare nomination. These successes have established Mukerji as one of the industry's most bankable stars.

In 2005, she starred in four big banner films. Among them, Bunty Aur Babli was a smash hit and her performances in all the others, particularly in Black were generally appreciated. Adding another feather to her cap, 'Paheli', in which she starred, got the honour of opening the ninth Zimbabwe International Film Festival in Harare a year later.

Mukerji has been an active stage performer and participated in numerous world tours. Temptations 2004 was her most successful concert, in which she performed alongside Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Arjun Rampal and Priyanka Chopra. She also appeared at the Closing Ceremony of the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, as part of a performance showcasing Indian culture, on behalf of the 2010 Commonwealth Games, to be held in Delhi.

Mukerji's success has continued into 2006, with her most recent release,'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna', finishing with the highest opening gross of any Bollywood movie to date. Ms. Mukerji has been a top actress for three years now according to many reputed polls. Filmfare Magazine, the most prestigious Bollywood journal, slotted her the number one position on the Top Ten Actresses' List for two consecutive years. Other magazines have shared the same philosophy similarly.

PERSONAL LIFE:

Mukerji has been romantically linked with actors such as Govinda , Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan and most recently, director Aditya Chopra. All parties have, however, strongly denied these rumours.Mukherjee seems to lead a hard-working life, totally focused on her career. She appears in the news only for appearances at movie premieres, special events, film festivals, award ceremonies, film promotion-related proceedings, or charity work. Home is important to her: in 2006, the actress bought a new house for herself in Juhu, the interior design for which was done by Twinkle Khanna.

She is very close to her niece, Mayesha whom she lovingly calls 'Mishti' (which means "sweet" in Bengali).

Mukerji's popularity as an actress has often matched that of her contemporary, Preity Zinta. The two actresses have also appeared together in a number of movies. As a result, they are often compared to each other, and there has been a great deal of speculation about their personal relationship. Both actresses have always maintained that they share a healthy professional relationship, and have expressed mutual respect.

Besides acting in films, Mukerji does her bit for charitable causes. Her show, Temptations 2005 in New Delhi, helped to raise funds for the National Centre For Promotional of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP), a leading disabled rights' group. Shahrukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra were also amongst the many who contributed to this cause.

In 2006, Mukerji celebrated her birthday with the students of The Helen Keller Institute for the Deaf and Blind, whom she had befriended while doing research for her role as a blind and deaf girl in Black. She has also given credit for her award-winning performance in that movie to the students.

CONTROVERSIES:

In June 2005, Mukherjee was widely criticized following the publication of an interview with British newspaper Desi Xpress. Mukherjee was asked to name her idol and she replied, "Adolf Hitler". However, in an interview with TimesNow a year later, she denied ever mentioning Hitler's name.

In November 2006, Mukherjee was shooting a film in Varanasi when avid fans crowded the set. Security personnel beat the crowd back with sticks. A media storm followed as various groups insisted that Mukherjee should have stopped the security guards. Mukherjee later issued a guarded apology.

ENTRY TO THE BOLLYWOOD FILM INDUSTRY:

Hrithik Roshan, born on January 10, 1974, is a top rung bollywood actor and son of director Rakesh Roshan. Hrithik Roshan is fondly called 'Duggu' by those close to him. As a child artist Hrithik Roshan worked in 'Asha', 'Bhagwan Dada' and 'Aap ke Deewane'. He also worked as an assistant director on 'Khudgarz', 'Karan Arjun' and 'Koyla', 'Karobar' and 'King Uncle'.

Hrithik Roshan made his debut as a leading man in Bollywood with 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai', a movie produced and directed by father Rakesh Roshan. The movie was a huge success and turned Hrithik Roshan into a superstar literally overnight.

The movie's success was followed by an attack on Rakesh Roshan by the Mumbai underworld, after he ignored their extortion threats. Rakesh Roshan survived the attack.

Hrithik's debut was so sensational, he was being seen as the man taking over from Shahrukh Khan, arguably the most successful actor in bollywood. Shahrukh Khan at that point of time became so insecure reportedly that he agreed to do a Pepsi commercial that made a dig at Hrithik Roshan who endorsed Coke then. This led to a lot of bad press for Shahrukh Khan. Eventually things were sorted out and the two even worked together in Karan Johar's 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' where Hrithik played younger brother to Shahrukh Khan.

Hrithik Roshan married Suzzane Khan soon after his debut amidst strong rumors of his liason with Kareena Kapoor. Hrithik's wife Suzzane Khan is the daughter of yesteryear's actor-director Sanjay Khan and sister of actor Zayed Khan. Hrithik now has a son from Suzzane Khan, named 'Rehaan'.

Meanwhile Hrithik's debut movie was followed by a string of flops including 'Fiza', 'Mission Kashmir', 'Yaadein', 'Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage ', 'Na Tum Jaano Na Hum', 'Mujhse Dosti Karoge!' and 'Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon ' with the 2001 release 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' being the only success in this period. Critics almost wrote him off calling him a 'one film wonder' and a 'flash in the pan' until he bounced back with 'Koi Mil Gaya' again directed by his father, Rakesh Roshan.

Hrithik Roshan played a mentally retarted boy who becomes unusually strong and powerful with the influence of an extra terrestrial visitor from space. The movie also brought him critical aclaim apart from bringing him back in favor with the masses. In early 2006 Hrithik Roshan starred in "Krissh", a sequel to 'Koi Mil Gaya', the third movie produced and directed by his father for him that collected over 70 crore rupees (About $15 million) at the box office.

Over the last five years, his three home productions have been his most successful films and some believe that Hrithik is only successful with his father behind the camera. Sources close to the Roshan family tell us that Hrithik Roshan has immense talent for filmmaking and his contribution to these movies have been behind the camera too. Hrithik is known to be very passionate about his work and gets involved in every aspect of a movie, especially if it is his own home production. Rakesh Roshan has publicly acknowledged Hrithik's role in keeping him in touch with contemporary world cinema. Hrithik has assisted Rakesh Roshan on his home productions including 'King Uncle' and 'Karan Arjun'.

Hrithik Roshan is a favorite pin up boy of millions. Few knew that before his debut Hrithik tried hard to have a sculpted body without much success. Finally a dejected Duggu approached superstar Salman Khan, having known him from the days of 'Karan Arjun' and received tips from him. This led to his beefy look in 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai' that clicked with the masses.

Rakesh Roshan had spent a lot of money on his son's debut movie, trying to showcase every talent of his. It turned out to be a very expensive movie and despite efforts distributors were wary of buying the rights to it. Eventually Rakesh Roshan released it himself in a few territories and reaped a bounty.

Industry sources say Hrithik Roshan has been strongly influenced by the family of his in-laws and is no longer the soft spoken down to earth boy he was when he started out. This was apparent when allegations of plagiarism surfaced against Rakesh Roshan for 'Krissh' and Hrithik was quoted as saying, "If there's anybody else out there claiming a piece of dad's original work, please come forward. I have a lot of muscle I need to put to come good use".

Hrithik Roshan is known to be very choosy about the movies he works in and few scripts are written keeping him in mind. He is currently part of Yashraj film's 'Dhoom 2' a sequel to the 2004 movie 'Dhoom' in which he plays a villain role for the first time and 'Jodha-Akbar' directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.

Hrithik has a vestigial thumb on his right hand and is 6 feet tall. His wife, Suzzane Khan has said on record that he's obsessed with his looks and is often found staring at himself in the mirror.
